Little Newcastle
St Peter's Church, Little Newcastle. ( 51°55'18.56"N 4°56'19.77"W)
A very modest looking village church, but surprisingly different inside.
The church is extremely well looked after, and boasts some excellent modern stained glass windows.
The windows were commissioned from the Department of Stained Glass Windows at what was then known as Swansea Institute, but is now Swansea Metropolitan University.
The parishioners chose the work of Caroline Loveys, and the windows were installed in 1996.
There is a series of five nave stained glass windows, depicting the nativity, baptism, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension.
The west window is the work of a different artist. It is called Second Coming and was designed by John Edwards,
a former lecturer at the Department of Stained Glass Windows and installed in 2000. A later work in the chancel, in 2002, is also by John Edwards.
This church forms part of the "Bishops Road", part of the "Saints and Stones Pilgimages"
The lady cleaning the church told me about Llanstinan, so I went there and took some photos as I was in the area..
